CRESTWOOD, Ky. (WHAS11) – For the first time, the public is hearing 911 calls made involving a deadly wrong-way crash on I-71 in Oldham County last weekend.

Several people called 911 after witnessing the crash which happened late Saturday night near the Crestwood exit.

The driver going the wrong way and one other man died.

Those who called 911 had to wait several minutes before talking to a dispatcher.

Oldham County Police say they only have two or three dispatchers working each night.

“Due to the incident, of course, there was going to be a surplus of calls coming in. Please just be patient, we wanted all calls coming in so we knew what was going on,” Officer King said.

Officer King says if you can’t get through the first time, keep calm and keep calling.
