72-year-old Frederick Gatewood is charged with kidnapping, assault, wanton endangerment and terroristic threatening.
Police say he hit a woman several times on the face and head, giving her two black eyes.
They say the woman was also bitten on the arms.
Officers say Gatewood threatened the woman's life and kidnapped her for 18 hours.
