SPRINGFIELD, Ky. (WHAS11)—Police are investigating an accident that occurred just before 8 a.m. Monday on KY 55.

Police said the accident occurred four miles south of Springfield, Ky. when Kayla Wimstett, 17 of Willisburg, was driving a 2004 Pontiac in the northbound lane.

Wimstett had two other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision, Brittany Wimstett, 16 and Jessica Marcum, 11, all of whom were wearing seat belts.

Police said while Kayla Wimstett was waiting to turn left, when the vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2011 Ford Taurus driven by Kelly Chappell, 45 of Halifax, Va.

Chappell was traveling with Earl Bass, 58 of Nashville, N.C.

The girls were taken to Springview Hospital where they were treated and released. Chappell and Bass were not injured.
