HOUSTON -- Police investigated a grim discovery in a southwest Houston apartment complex late Monday.
Officers with the Houston Police Department said a resident found a child’s body wrapped in blankets inside a refrigerator.
A neighbor made the discovery around 6 p.m. at the Happy Home Apartments in the 10100 block of Club Creek.
The man told police he became concerned about a young girl he hadn’t seen in a few months. He went into the apartment to check on her, and that’s when he found her body in the fridge.
Homicide investigators responded and, after a search warrant was issued, went in to look over the scene.
Police said the girl, who had cerebral palsy, may have been in the refrigerator for months. Her identity wasn’t immediately confirmed, and no family members arrived at the apartment on Monday night.
“We do have a strong idea, but obviously without family here to identify her we’re just going on our suspicions,” said Sgt. Chris Hassig.
Police said it appeared the apartment was lived in recently.
Nearby residents are concerned about the girl's death.
“There’s like two, three, four securities every night,” said neighbor Michelle Oritz. “It’s just sad because it’s a little girl.”
