SOUTH HOUSTON, Texas – A 3-year-old girl was shot in the leg Saturday night during an alleged road rage incident in South Houston.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Allen Genoa Road near Avenue A.

According to authorities, a husband, wife and their child were riding in an SUV when they came up to an unknown car driving recklessly in front of them. The father decided to go around the slow-moving car.

As the father passed the vehicle, a suspect shot several rounds in the air. When the family came to a red light and stopped, the suspect opened fire and shot into the back of the SUV, police said.

At least seven rounds went into the SUV and one of the bullets hit the 3-year-old in the leg.

The father took off through the red light and got away from the shooter. He pulled into an apartment complex where his relatives lived and called 911.

The victim was taken to Bayshore Hospital in stable condition. She was released from the hospital Sunday .
