MOSCOW, Idaho -- A woman is left looking for answers after thieves broke into her car last weekend in Moscow, Idaho and stole her dad’s ashes.

Tina Krauss said her dad loved to travel and she kept her dad's ashes in her car so he could join her on all of her journeys. John Krauss was an Army Veteran who died almost 8 years ago.

“I like the idea of him sort of being with me wherever I go whether I leave his ashes there or not,” Krauss said.

When she went to start her car last weekend, she noticed that someone had broken in. Thieves stole sunglasses and a few other small things including the small wooden box with her father’s ashes inside. Krauss said she was devastated when she found out.

“He was the kind of guy that could talk to anybody. If he’s standing in line at the grocery store he’d make a friend,” Krauss said.

Krauss said the box the ashes were in also has sentimental value. It has been on countless trips across the country. She is hoping to be reunited with the ashes so she can take her dad on one final trip.

“My dad hadn’t been to Alaska or Hawaii. So I’d really like to take him there,” Krauss said.

Krauss said she just wants the ashes back. If not the ashes, then the box they were in. You are asked to call the Moscow Police Department if you have any information.
