SEATTLE -- The Seattle Fire Department says 20 people were injured in two multi-vehicle crashes on Interstate 5 in Seattle near Boeing Field.
Spokesman Kyle Moore says the worst crash at 6:40 a.m. Friday caused 15 injuries. A 25-year-old man who had to be cut out of the wreckage of one car has been taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. In addition, Moore says there are five serious injuries and nine people with minor injuries.
All northbound lanes were blocked and backed up 14 miles to Federal Way. All lanes were back open within two hours.
He says there was a second crash in the southbound lanes at the same location that caused five minor injuries. It blocked only one southbound lane, but traffic moved slowly through the scene.
The causes of both collisions were not immediately released.
Emergency responders evaluated a total of 30 people in both collisions.
