HOUSTON – A Houston man charged with murder said he is now changing his plea from guilty to not guilty in the beheading of his grandfather.

Justin Paris, 26, will stand trial beginning in March after he was accused of killing 81-year-old John Gonzales and then using hedge clippers to remove his grandfather’s head.

The plea change came as a blow to the rest of the family; they have been waiting four years for justice.

“It just hurts, it hurts really bad, just prolonging it, prolonging it, we keep doing this over and over and you just can’t ever get closure and you think you’re getting close and it just doesn’t happen,” a family member said.

The victim had lived in his northwest Houston home for 40 years. His grandson and granddaughter lived with him.
