FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 2, 2013) - A section of Interstate 64 under construction in Shelby County will be temporarily shut down Tuesday evening, Aug. 6, to allow a crew to shift traffic patterns in that area.
The westbound lanes of I-64, from Exit 35 to Exit 28, will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. Construction crews will move barrier walls, shifting traffic lanes for westbound lanes as construction continues in that area. The area is expected to be reopened to traffic by 2 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7.
The closure will detour westbound I-64 traffic off on Exit 35 on to KY 53. The detour will continue to KY 55X, west on KY 55/Shelbyville Bypass, to U.S. 60W and then to KY 1848 which will lead to I-64 Exit 28 (Simpsonville). The left turn lane from KY 53N to US 60W will be closed during the closure to aid in traffic flow.
The I-64 Exit 32 westbound entrance ramp will also be closed during this period.
As the I-64 widening project continues in Shelby County, from mile point 32.8 to 27.9, construction will soon enter the next phase necessitating the switch in traffic patterns for the westbound lanes.
The construction project, which will widen the section of I-64 from four lanes to six lanes is scheduled to be completed by July 2014.
