BEREA, Ky. (AP) — Police say a woman and her boyfriend in Berea are charged with abusing four children by locking them in a room.

Berea police say 25-year-old Amber Bishop and 28-year-old Daniel Isaacs used ropes and chains on the door to keep it shut.

Sgt. Jake Reed says some of the children belonged to Bishop and some were Isaacs'. Police were asked to go to the home with social service workers after they received an abuse report.

Reed says police investigators did not report any signs of physical abuse on the children. But the kids were confined in a room at night without access to a bathroom. The four children are in state custody.

Isaacs and Bishop were charged with first-degree criminal abuse and were jailed in the Madison County Detention Center.
