BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 41-year-old woman from Greensburg says she initially threw away a Powerball ticket for the March 23 drawing, but dug it out of the trash when she realized she hadn't checked the numbers.
It's a good thing she did. The ticket was worth $10,000.
Joyce Womack's ticket matched four of the first five numbers drawn as well as the Powerball number. The numbers drawn were: 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31.
Womack says she didn't know exactly how much she'd won until arriving at Louisiana Lottery headquarters in Baton Rouge last Thursday. She received $7,000 after state and federal taxes were withheld. She plans to pay bills and put some money in the bank.
The winning ticket was bought at Kentwood Plaza on Avenue G in Kentwood.
