LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Police said they believe speed caused a motorcycle crash early Tuesday morning that claimed the lives of two people.
The crash happened in the 4100 block of Rivulet Court just off Blankenbaker Parkway around 1 a.m., but police were not called to the scene until later.
Police said a resident heard a loud noise in the early hours of Tuesday morning, but it wasn't until around 8 a.m. when the victims were discovered in two separate backyards.
Police described the victims as a male and female in their 20s.
Investigators said the male hit a median as he drove southbound on Blankenbaker Parkway and that impact caused the female passenger to be thrown off the motorcycle. The female then struck the sound barrier wall and it is believed she was killed on impact.
Investigators said the driver was later thrown from the motorcycle and hit a tree. He too, is believed to be killed on impact.
Police said they don't believe the lag in their arrival would have saved the pair because of their injuries.
The identities of the victims has not been released.
