SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Spokane man was put in jail Sunday, after being accused of stabbing his dog in the neck.
Police arrested Nathan Meier for first-degree animal cruelty against his dog Dakota.
Washington police responded to the 3700 block of North Regal in Spokane after Meier’s nephew called police. He told them his uncle was threatening people with a knife, and then used the same knife on Dakota.
Neighbors said they are disgusted and cannot understand how anyone could stab their own pet.
The seven-year-old German/Australian Shepherd mix will survive, but needed stitches.
Meier’s sister-in-law describes him as emotionally unstable, but said he loves his dog. She said she cannot explain why he would hurt his pet and Dakota is standing at the window looking for her owner.
Police took Meier into custody outside of his home. They said he had blood on him and wounds on his wrist.
Meier faces felony charges and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
