Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - A 12-year-old boy is facing several charges after police said he stole his grandfather's SUV in Powell County, Ky. and led them on a chase to a neighboring county.

Stanton Police got a call just before midnight about a reckless driver at Pine Creek Apartments.

A 911 phone call of the incident stated a 12-year-old was driving a Tahoe down by the school. The caller stated the driving was reckless, and that the boy was driving without any lights on.

Police caught up with the boy and were led on a high-speed chase through Stanton.

Once police confirmed they were dealing with a juvenile, they said they terminated the pursuit but continued to follow him into Montgomery County.

As he turned around to come off a road he’d turned onto, police said he went off the roadway to avoid them and flipped several times into a culvert.

Police said he suffered minor injuries and was taken to Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center.

The boy is being charged with theft of the vehicle, wanton endangerment and fleeing and evading police.
