FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (WHAS11) – The 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell conducted its first brigade-sized air assault training mission in more than a decade.

Operation Golden Eagle used more than 40 helicopters, more than 20 sling load missions and more than 1,000 soldiers.

The exercise showcased the division’s ability to react to speed, surprise and lethality.

This operation also validated the standards and procedures of the division’s Gold Book that defines the Army’s standards of air assault operations.
