LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Officers with the Kentucky State Police are investigating an accident that killed a teenager.
Police said 18-year-old Joseph L. Osbourn, of Lebanon, was traveling west on US 68, when he crossed the centerline and entered the eastbound traffic lane. Police said Osbourn attempted to avoid a collision and drove off of the eastbound side of the roadway where the vehicle overturned several times. Osbourn was wearing a seatbelt and refused treatment at the scene.
19-year-old Colin D. Whitfill, of Lebanon, was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at Springview hospital by the Marion County coroner. A second passenger, 18-year-old Justin Wheatley, of Loretto, was also wearing a seatbelt and refused treatment.
44-year-old Roy M. Burchett was traveling east on US 68. Burchett attempted to avoid the head-on collision and steered his vehicle into the westbound lane. The 2 vehicles slapped mirrors on the passenger sides and Burchett was able to keep control of his vehicle. He and a passenger, 34-year-old Elizabeth Burchett, of Gravel Switch, were not injured.
