SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- Parents of students at Martha Layne Collins High School were shocked when we told them 42-year-old Special Education Teacher Shannon Hirchert was arrested and charged for having sexual contact with two students.
Shelby County Detectives say Hirchert is accused of having five sexual encounters with one student and one sexual encounter with another student. The alleged encounters took place last fall and winter in various locations including a parking lot and a classroom.
Both students were under 18-years-old and authorities say the boys were not students in Hirchert's class.
We attempted to talk to Hirtchert at her home. She didn't answer when we knocked on the door.
We sought comment from the superintendent and several school board members. Our calls were not immediately returned.
