LOUISVILLE (WHAS 11) -- We know you're busy and don't always have time to compare grocery store prices, so WHAS 11 is On Your Side doing the work for you before you shop for your Thanksgiving Dinner.
The shopping was completed at three stores on the same day for the same list of items, no coupons were allowed.
With Thanksgiving less than a week away, the next few days will mean big business for grocery stores everywhere. WHAS 11 went comparison shopping to see if you could save on the foods you need to make Thanksgiving dinner depending on where you buy.
For our test, here is menu: The main dish is turkey with gravy or cranberry sauce. Our side dishes include crescent rolls, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. For dessert, there is a pumpkin pie with cool whip.
The three stores in this price comparison: Walmart, Meijer, and Kroger.
The same shopping list was used at each store with mostly name brand products. Milk, eggs, and potatoes, were the only store brand items we bought.

The bill at the Meijer on Hurstbourne Parkway came to $49.79.
WHAS 11 got that total because more than $30 was spent, which made the price of our Butterball Turkey 98 cents per pound. Meijer is running that deal through Saturday.
The Taylorsville Road Kroger bill came to $60.59.
WHAS 11 was also able to get everything on our list but Kroger didn't have a Butterball Turkey smaller than 21 pounds. If a bird could've been found in a similar size like the one purchased at Meijer and Walmart, Kroger's total would have been $52.38.
Walmart on Hurstbourne Parkway had almost everything on our list and the total was $52.10.
This store didn't carry Green Giant Green Beans, so Del Monte was purchased instead, another name brand. The change saved us 10 cents a can compared to Meijer and Kroger.
Many of the items on our shopping list were on sale no matter where we shopped. Sale prices at Meijer run through Saturday. Deals at Kroger run through Wednesday, you just need to use a Kroger card to get the discounts.
