03:06 PM EST on Monday, December 18, 2006

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Two western Kentucky dentists were charged with fraud for allegedly submitting false Medicaid claims to the state.

Dr. Timothy Underwood, 55, and his wife, Dr. Nadine Conners, 52, of Central City, were named in an indictment released on Monday.  They’re accused of one count of double billing the state for services and receiving double payments.

Underwood and Conners couldn’t be reached for comment.

The charge is a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.

A western Kentucky respiratory therapist also was indicted Monday on 29 felony counts of Medicaid fraud. Mark Pierce, 45, is the owner and sole employee of PSG Consultants, based in Greenville.

The indictment alleges that Pierce billed for medical devices that were not provided to patients.

Pierce couldn’t be reached for comment.
