Hi friends! It's Aja, back with a fun Christmas DIY project.
While I love perusing the Christmas decor aisles of all my favorite stores, this year I really wanted to try to create as much of our holiday decor as I could. And I'm still working on it! Since I have a toddler clammoring her way through my house at all times, I thought some soft, touchable, UNBREAKABLE ornaments were in order for our tree.
These sweet linen fabric stars were what I came up with. Want to make some? Here's what your'll need:
- Pillow stuffing
- Needle and thread
Start by cutting out a star shape from a piece of cardstock or junk mail. I drew my star old-school style. :) Then use the paper shape as a guide to cut your fabric. I folded my fabric to cut two pieces at the same time and cut them larger than the pattern.
Next, start stitching your star together. I wanted large, contrasting stitches so that your could see that these were homemade and unique. I'm kind of loving this look right now.
Once you have stitched around most of the star, stop to stuff it with the pillow stuffing. I found it easiest to have all the star points stitched, so that I wasn't trying to stitch them up and keep the stuffing inside at the same time. Then just complete those last few stitches and you're done!
I love how simple and homey these ornaments are. If you made a bunch of them, you could string a long piece of thread or yarn across to make a cute garland! Best of all, my daughter loves that she can reach up and grab one without mommy freaking out! :)
