Did you know you can negotiate prices even at big box stores? A friend of mine recently negotiated the price of a sofa at her local Macy's store. Many times, you can get a lower price on floor models or items that might have minor flaws.
For example, I saved several hundred dollars on my refrigerator. It has a small scratch on the left side, the thing is, the scratch actually goes up against the wall in our house so no one has ever seen it. Instant savings!
One of my cousins went into a local Dillards store and was able to get discounts on the floor models as well. My own dining room table was a floor model at Sam's Club and instead of $200, I paid only $50.
The key to negotiating is talking to a manger, someone who can actually deal with you directly. Also, offer to pay with cash instead of credit. Many times the stores are charged for processing your credit card and to avoid that, they'll offer freebies or discounts when you pay cash.
