Officer reunites lost dog with family on Thanksgiving

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A dog was reunited with its family on Thanksgiving after going missing.

Louisville Metro Police Officer Cody Pfeiffer of the Fourth Division shared his story on social media Friday morning.

In a post on Metro Police’s Facebook page and shared nearly 500 times, Officer Pfeiffer described seeing the dog wander into traffic as he was sitting at a red light. He said at that moment, he nearly watched the dog die right before his eyes.

That’s when Officer Pfeiffer said he got out of his cruiser and used his puppy voice to call the dog over to him. He jokingly said he arrested the dog for escape and took him to Metro Animal Services in hopes of finding his owner.

Officials at the animal care facility were able to identify the dog as “Simba” due his chip information.

Officer Pfeiffer said he put Simba back in his cruiser and they listened to Journey on their way back to the home of Simba’s owners. He said, “he stuck his head out the window the entire time”.

The officer said he never posts on social media but it was his love for dogs and being thankful for seeing him when he did.

He described Simba as “the sweetest thing ever”.
