Santa helps flip the switch for Light Up Louisville

The Light Up Louisville celebration welcomed food, fun and plenty of holiday magic.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The weather outside wasn't too frightful for the Light Up Louisville faithful.

"The first year I come down here it was so daggone cold that you really had to bundle up.  The weather is beautiful for this. Couldn't ask for anything better," Michael Fields said.

It's his third year taking in the sights and sounds. "We just come down here, have a good time. Enjoy ourselves," he said with a smile.

His favorite part is getting to meet Santa. Fields brought his 6-year-old cousin Ethan along for the first time. Ethan is planning to ask Santa for a dinosaur.

The ice skating rink is always a popular draw. Paula Yarbrough brought her two grandsons.

"They don't have things to do like we used to do. We had skating rinks, we had ice skating. We had a lot of things going on," Yarbrough said.

There was one person everyone came to see.

Santa made a special trip to Louisville from the North Pole to take part in the tree lighting and it did not disappoint.

"We love it.  Nothing like it," Fields said.
