Lawmakers highlighting differences in budget
04:56 PM EDT on Wednesday, March 26, 2008
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- House and Senate lawmakers are reviewing the differences in their budget proposals for state government.
Lawmakers spent almost four hours Wednesday highlighting the differences in their proposals—a precursor to finding a compromise. They plan to resume budget negotiations around 4 p.m. EDT.
House lawmakers are pushing to raise some taxes to increase state revenue. Senate negotiators say they’re opposed to tax increases.
Lawmakers are trying to figure out how to run state government over the next two years in the face of a projected revenue shortfall of nearly $900 million.
