(WHAS11) - A Mount Washington man is behind bars after police say that he threatened a judge’s life.

Police arrested Terry Hayes after they were notified that he had threatened to kill a judge.  A Bullitt County daycare center says they’ve been concerned about Hayes for a couple months.

As soon as Terry Hayes saw WHAS11’s cameras, he started with his side of the story.

“This county has wrongfully prosecuted me,” he says.

But police tell a different story that puts Hayes at the middle of a threat against Judge Rebecca Ward.

At the center of allegations of wrong doing is a Bullitt County daycare.

Bullitt County detectives say they got a call around 10:30 a.m. from a store owner who overheard the statement that Mr. Hayes allegedly made.

Wednesday morning officers arrested Hayes after they found him at the Bullitt County annex next to the courthouse where the judge sits on the bench.

The people who run the Little Sunshine’s Corner child care say that Hayes has some problems.

They say they’ve had their share of troubles with him

“We’ve had problems out of him since August since he moved in that residence across the street he’s been video taping our children, taking pictures, followed staff got their license plate numbers.

One of our staff saw him grabbing himself in the doorway while our kids were on the playground,” says Ramona Hoops.

Judge Ward issued a court order against Hayes pertaining to the daycare.

Police believe that’s why he was upset with the judge.

Hayes says all the allegations and charges against him are false.

“It’s a big misunderstanding,” he says.

Hayes is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m.

He is also facing other felony charges from a separate incident.

Police say he has a lengthy criminal past.
