TCA creates Eight Belles Memorial Fund

Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) has established the Eight Belles Memorial Fund to benefit retraining Thoroughbreds for secondary careers and research into catastrophic breakdowns.
The fund was created following Eight Belles catastrophic breakdown following her runner-up finish in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) on May 3 at Churchill Downs after galloping out.
“Many of the donations that have come in were actually cashed winning tickets that people didn’t want to spend on themselves,” TCA Executive Director Liz Harris said.
Following Eight Belles breakdown, TCA began receiving various donations with the request for funds to go toward charities to help Thoroughbreds like Eight Belles.
