Food and fuel costs are not the only prices skyrocketing

08:45 PM EDT on Saturday, July 5, 2008

WHAS11 has told you a lot about the rising price of food nowadays, particularly corn that costs more because of ethanol production, gas prices and flooding.

But all kinds of grains are affected, and that includes what may be one of your 4th of July favorites… beer.

The price of Hops has skyrocketed too, leaving local breweries, stores, and the consumer paying more for a cold one.

And Hops isn’t the only thing affecting those beer prices; malt, that produces the alcohol and body of beer, its prices have doubled as well.  And the price of rice, used by industrial brewers, has also skyrocketed.

To make it in the business, brewers are fudging their recipes, trying new ways of brewing.

And those in the business of selling you beer are looking for new recipes to offer their customers, but there’s no replacement for Hops, just different ways of using the Hops that are available, until the shortage ends.
