LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Ballard’s Ian Chiles scored 23 points including the game winner at the buzzer to lift the Bruins to a 62-59 win over Warren Central in the quarterfinals of the Kentucky Boys Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.
Ballard (31-4) led by as many as 22 but needed Chiles’ heroics after the Dragons staged a furious rally.
Warren Central tied the game after forward George Fant hit an open layup with 5 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Chiles hit an off-balance 3-pointer near midcourt with time running down.
Ballard will play the winner of Christian County and Scott County in the semifinals Saturday.
Troy Halcomb led Warren Central with 18 points and Fant added 15. The Dragons had 18 turnovers and didn’t score their first basket until the second quarter as Ballard built a 21-point halftime lead.
