LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Forward Keisten Jones scored 30 points as Ballard held off Shelby County 90-80 in the opening round of the Boys Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.
Ballard, considered one of the tournament favorites, was matched shot for shot in an up-tempo game that saw 10 lead changes before the Bruins took the lead for good midway through the fourth quarter.
Ballard (30-4) shot 12-for-28 from behind the arc and shot 47 percent from the floor.
Shelby County (24-6) was led by Daryl Hicks with 30 points and Cache Tomlinson with 20.
Ballard will play Warren Central in the quarterfinals on Friday.
