University of Louisville football fans have a lot to look forward to this season, and now fans tuning in on the radio have a new voice as the Cardinals have an addition to their radio broadcast team.
Former running back Tony Stallings, who played for the Cardinals, will join Paul Rogers in the booth to form Louisville’s new radio duo for the 2011 season. Doug Ormay remains on the sidelines this season. Games can be heard on the Cardonals' Radio Network on either WHAS 840 or WKRD 790.
Stallings, a four-year letterman for Louisville (1998-01), was a part of four-straight bowl appearances during his playing days, including guiding the Cardinals to back-to-back Conference USA titles in 2000 and 2001.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for me,” said Stallings. “I’m honored to work with a legend like Paul Rogers, and I’m excited to be working at my alma mater. I look forward to calling the action for the great Cardinal fans. I loved my time at Louisville and I ‘m excited to be a part of the program.”
Stallings replaces Stefan LeFors, who stepped down after being named the head football coach at Christian Academy.
A native a Cleveland, Ohio, Stallings’ best season was in 2000 when he rushed for 810 yards and six touchdowns in guiding the Cardinals to Conference USA title and a trip to the Liberty Bowl. He also is remembered for a 25-yard run in overtime to defeat Kentucky 40-34 in the 2000 season opener at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
After his Louisville career, Stallings played in the Arena Football League and in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampeders. He spent one season in Europe for the Bergamo Lions, where he won a Super Bowl.
Following his playing career, Stallings took to reality television, where he was named Animal Planet’s King of the Jungle. He is also starring in the Sept. 30 release of the movie “Courageous.”
Stallings, who left school early, came back to finish his degree in sociology from Louisville in 2004.
