(WHAS11) - A WHAS11 News investigation has turned up documented examples of mistreatment of inmates at the Harrison County, Indiana jail.
Documents show a restrained inmate was seriously injured after coming in contact with pepper spray.
According to several reports, Corporal Adams put an inmate in a restraint chair and then placed a hood covered with pepper spray on his head for an hour.
A doctor says the inmate suffered serious injuries associated with a chemical agent.
"Anybody should have more sense than to do something like that," said Harrison County Commissioner Terry Miller.
The jail commander, Captain Nathan Simpson fired Corporal Adams but three days later Adams was back on the job after being reinstated by Sheriff Mike Deatrick.
Reports from other officers indicate Adams didn't do anything wrong.
Sheriff Deatrick says he investigated the incident and found no wrongdoing.
