LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) - Three people were shot near the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington early Friday morning.

Gunfire rang out around 2:30 a.m. near the McDonald’s on South Limestone Street.  That’s between two popular late-night hangouts for UK students – Tolly Ho Restaurant and Two Keys Tavern.  It’s also across the street from Holmes Hall, a UK dorm.

Police said three people were shot and at least one of them was a student.  Right now it is reported that two victims were shot in the abdomen and a third was shot in the foot.

Lexington police are looking for two suspects last seen leaving the scene in a green Camaro or Monte Carlo.  Police have impounded a vehicle, but it is not clear at this time if it is the getaway car.

UK issued a safety alert to students and staff around 3 a.m. telling them to avoid the area and seek safe shelter.  At 4:35 a.m. an “all-clear” alert was sent.

Lexington police continue to investigate.
