(WHAS11) -- Did you know that some wines can be 'greener' than others? In this Project Green, WHAS11's chief meteorologist Monty Webb visited the Napa River Grille to get the latest on organic wine with help from local wine expert David Dubou.
Dubou explains “Green wines can be broken down into three different types. We have sustainable farming, organic farming, and bio-degradable farming […] In a way, bio-dynamic farming is an extremely complex, advanced form of organic farming, that is the most holistic and complete approach, that tries to create an eco-system that is truly dynamic.
Conventionally farmed vineyards are going to use synthetic and man-made solutions to problems to create flourishing vines, but it's not sustainable. So with these types of wines, we are creating vineyards that will be there for the long-term and create wine with more natural methods.”
This method is important for creating vineyards that last for generations, but are still gentle on the Earth.
There have been a lot of blind taste tests and studies that show that wines that are sustainably, organically, or bio-dynamically farmed actually create wine that has a broader tapestry of flavor, and a more interesting intensity.
David tells WHAS that 'green' wines will cost a few more dollars, but are well worth the additional cost. Most restaurants and liquor stores carry organic wines; all you have to do is ask.
