Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The man suspected of killing an infant appeared in court for a probable cause hearing Tuesday.
It was the first time the victim's family came face to face with the suspect since 4-month-old Aiden died.
There were two completely different sides to the same story:
"He's an abomination to the human society," said Heather Allen, friend of four month old baby Aiden's mother.
"He would never do nothing to intentionally hurt them babies," said Samuel Harris, Sr. the defendant's father.
During the hearing, family and friends of the victim cried. And the defendant's mother was forced to leave the courtroom after an outburst. Harris spent most of the hearing shaking his head.
Bullitt County Detective Scottie McGaha testified that Harris initially lied to police and later confessed to throwing and shaking the baby because the child was crying. And McGaha says, Harris told police, he had been under the influence.
Samuel Harris junior is accused of murder in the infant’s death. Police say at first he lied about what happened and then later confessed to throwing the baby on the sofa against a broken wooden board and when the baby stopped breathing, he told police that he shook the baby.
Harris also told police that he had smoked marijuana all day before the incident and that he was a pill user but hadn’t taken pills that day.
Samuel Harris’ bond is set at $1 million.
WHAS11 News is told that the twins’ mother is very troubled about the incident and that both babies showed signs of previous trauma.
Aiden’s twin brother Braiden is currently in the state’s custody while their mother plans Aiden’s funeral.
"It's a tragedy for both sides," said Harris, Sr.
"In my opinion, he deserves death. He took a life, so he should give his. But justice will be served. He's a dead man walking. We know what they do to baby killers in the prison system," said Heather Allen.
