Poll:
Will you get the H1N1 vaccine?
700 doses of the swine flu mist are available in Floyd County and three elementary schools will be first in line to receive the vaccines: Mount Tabor Elementary, The Children's Academy of New Albany and Green Valley. 300 will be given to EMS workers and the remaining 400 doses will be given to students who have consent forms signed by a parent or guardian. One question on parents’ minds: Will the kids feel ill after the swine flu mist? "The effects are relatively benign, nasal congestion and sneezing. The redness of an injection isn't a problem here," Dr. Tom harries, Floyd County Health Department, said. Harris also said children nine and under may need a second dose in two to three weeks, about the same time it takes for the vaccine to take full effect. Kids with respiratory or chronic illnesses won't be vaccinated. H1N1 vaccination shots are expected October 15.
Hundreds of southern Indiana students were vaccinated Monday against the swine flu.
The New Albany-Floyd County School district was among the first to receive the nasal mist vaccine and the schools with the highest number of swine flu cases were treated first.
Health experts say the H1N1 virus attacks mostly young adults, children and pregnant women, unlike the seasonal flu.
