Carroll County sheriff in serious but stable condition after crashing into tree

(WHAS11) - The sheriff of Carroll County, Kentucky is in serious but stable condition at University Hospital after an accident.
Sheriff Ben Smith was responding to a domestic violence call when he police say he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree.
It happened just east of downtown Carrollton Tuesday afternoon.
His vehicle was the only one involved in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
