VINE GROVE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- At 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call that a woman had been shot at a residence in the Vine Grove area in Meade County.
Toni M. Lawhorn, 34, of Vine Grove had been shot once in the stomach. She was able to flee the residence to a neighbor's house where they called 911. Police say the suspect is her husband 55-year-old Terry C. Lawhorn. When police arrived on the scene, they say the suspect shot at them. Police say it took them several hours of negotiating to get him to turn himself in.
He was taken to the Meade County Jail. Terry Lawhorn is charged with 1st degree assault and wanton endangerment. His bond has been set at $100,000 cash.
Toni Lawhorn has undergone surgery and is in ICU at a Louisville hospital. Her mother says she is doing better and is off of a ventilator.
