(WHAS11) -- There were many events to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr's birthday across Kentuckian. An event at the Ali Center was all about families and students hearing the immortal words King lived by firsthand.

The Ali Center offered free screenings of King's famous speech all day. The auditorium was full of students and families hoping that King’s message would resonate with a younger audience

It's those powerful words we have come to associate with the man , the movement,  the voice that changed a generation.

The Muhammad Ali Center showed, the entirety of King's I Have A Dream speech for free all day Monday.

Teachers at Nativity Academy thought it was the perfect opportunity for some of their students to spend their day off to be inspired.

"I thought how a man can change the entire world, lift people's mind set about how we can overcome slavery and prejudice and how we can all come together and be a family, " said student Damon McClein.

"I think it was very moving. A long time ago everyone was so against black people but after Martin Luther King's speech we are able to make it so everybody can work together, " said student Shawn Williams.

Also in the audience listening closely the Taylor family along with their two children ages 5 and 3.

"Our kids are very young but we thought it was very important for them, as much as they can understand what Dr. King was talking about , equality for all people," said Judson Taylor.

They are lessons that years later,  still resonate with young and old who want their children to learn a better way of life.
