Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Personal belongings and the umbrella of a woman hit by a truck lay in the middle of national turnpike Monday morning.
Police say 32-year-old Heidi Diaz was drinking and driving while traveling north on National Turnpike in South Louisville.
A woman was trying to cross National Turnpike at the Outer Loop intersection. But police say Diaz hit that woman with her Dodge Ram pickup truck around 6 a.m. The victim was taken to University Hospital with life threatening injuries.Diaz was given a sobriety test, arrested and taken to jail.
The north bound lane of National Turnpike was blocked off for nearly three hours. The morning traffic was congested in several directions as investigators examined the scene in the chilling rain. Diaz's pickup truck remained where the woman was struck until 8:30. Evidence was collected and cleared from the road.
Diaz is now behind bars. She is charged with DUI, driving without a license and having an open alcoholic container in her truck.
