(WHAS11) - The intensity was turned way up Monday in the battle for Kentucky’s U.S. Senate seat.

The Daniel Mongiardo U.S. Senate campaign says “Attorney General Jack Conway's campaign is neck deep in political dirty tricks."

The Mongiardo campaign says the Conway campaign created or helped create an anonymous YouTube video attacking Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo.

Spokesman Kim Geveden, however, is not accusing Conway’s staff of being involved in the more publicized audio recordings of Mongiardo also on YouTube.
Instead, he points to another anonymously posted video, a two minute political attack video that showed up on YouTube October 7th.
On Monday, Geveden said he could prove video shot by a Conway campaign staffer was used in the YouTube piece, citing three clips he says were shot by a "Conway campaign tracker" at Fancy Farm in August that were also included in the anonymous internet attack.

"He and his campaign have a lot of serious questions to answer,” said Geveden, “who is involved, where does it lead?"

Geveden says the video raises serious questions about whether it violates federal election laws. He would not say if the Mongiardo campaign plans to file a complaint.

Conway's campaign did not deny the allegations but fired back in a statement saying:

“Daniel Mongiardo is trying to shift the blame away from his ugly comments about the Governor, for which he has still not apologized.

While Dan Mongiardo spent this morning pointing his finger at  an innocent college student about silly internet videos, Attorney General Conway was busy cracking down on criminals."

In an earlier anonymous YouTube post, a voice identified as Mongiardo can be heard complaining about Governor Steve Beshear.

The Mongiardo campaign says the audio was "heavily edited."

In a recent interview, Conway said his campaign had nothing to do with the audio posting.

Conway said, "My working assumption is you're taped everywhere you go, so, but no my campaign had nothing to do with that.  I can't imagine anyone from my campaign would have gotten into a position that close to Dr. Mongiardo."
