LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- First Lady Michelle Obama will be in the Russell neighborhood Thurs. Feb. 23. She is expected around 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

A historic moment in the making for 86-year-old DW King.

"She cares more about the family. That's the main thing. I've got a daughter who is a nurse and she thinks more about the family," said King about Obama.

Michelle Obama will be at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage.

Work on the center was delayed for two years following a state audit of how federal grant money was used.

Around 900 people are expected to attend. Tickets are sold out with prices ranging from $100 to $2,500.

West End businesses are excited about the visit.

"Michelle Obama is a very educated strong black woman and it would be great to see her," said Eric Hansberry who is a barber at The New T & B Classic Cuts Barber Shop.

The barber shop has served the likes of Muhammad Ali, Danny Glover, Master P. and others.

"Just for her to be across the street is history making for us. Everyone on the corner has been sprucing things up talking about waiting on her to come in,"
said Camille Anderson-Linton who owns the coffeehouse.

Some lane closures may take place. It will be monitored by the Louisville Metro Police Traffic Division.
