Mayor Jerry Abramson and Dr. Adewale Troutman of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness along with Jefferson County Public Schools officials will announce plans to vaccinate school-age children during a news conference Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
The conference will take place at the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness at 400 E. Gray St.
In addition, the Metro health department will hold an H1N1 vaccination clinic Tuesday at the New Zion Baptist Church, 1501 S. 34th St., from 3 - 7 p.m. or until all doses have been administered.
The clinic is for individuals considered to be high-risk:
· pregnant women
· people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
· people between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old
· people 25 years through 64 years of age with chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems
· health-care workers
· emergency first responders
Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. People can help to alleviate clinic waiting time by downloading and completing the consent form at http://www.louisvilleky.gov/Health/ before coming to the clinic.
The department said there are 3,000 vaccine doses available, a combination of nasal mist and injections.
