(WHAS11)-Veterans Day is Wednesday, but Monday morning dozens of local Veterans were greeted by some familiar faces.

Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and Congressman John Yarmuth took some time out to visit with the Veterans at Louisville's VA hospital.

This is the second year the two have paid a visit to the hospital in honor of Veterans Day.

They say it’s just a small way to show their appreciation for our military men and women.

"There are fewer and fewer Americans serving than ever before.  I have this fear that a lot of people have forgotten what the guys and gals who take that oath are doing for this country," says Mayor Abramson.

Congress recently passed a sweeping measure that would open up more funding for V-A hospitals.  It will allow congress to approve funding a year in advance even without an approved budget from congress.
