Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - A Louisville man is facing up to five years in jail after pleading guilty to keeping his mother's body in her house for six months after she died.
52-year-old Julius Harris was charged with abuse of a corpse and theft.
Police say Harris's 89-year-old mother died of natural causes in May.
He admitted to cashing her social security checks after her death and illegally selling a house she owned using her power of attorney.
“Our theory of the case was pretty clear; he did it for the money. His mother had passed and he still wanted to cash her social security checks. That seemed to be his source of income, so when she passed away, he didn't notify anyone,” says Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Tom Coffey.
Harris will be sentenced on April 15th.
