Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - After waiting for more than a year-and-a-half for the case to go to trial, a verdict was finally handed down in the case of the Commonwealth vs. William Jerry Seidl.
It took jurors about four hours to reach a verdict, convicting Seidl of killing Dorene Seidl, his wife of 52 years.
The jury has recommended that Seidl receive 35 years in prison.
Seidl will be in prison for at least 20 years before he would eligible for parole. He would be at least 90-years-old.
Just days before Seidl shot his wife five times on August 5th, 2008, she sought a protective order against him but it was denied by a judge.
Family members are relieved at the verdict and the jury’s sentence recommendation but say it has been a tough year-and-a-half waiting for justice.
“We’ve been on a probably year-and-a-half rollercoaster. My wife lost her father, my kids have lost their grandfather and she’s lost her mother, my kids have lost their grandmother to a very senseless act that needed to be paid for,” says Seidl’s son-in-law, Keith Scanlon.
