(WHAS11) -- Talk about being in the right place at the right time.
A postal carrier in the Highlands is being a hailed a hero.
He spotted two men breaking into a house while on his mail route.
His quick thinking helped police track down the two men just two blocks away from the scene of the crime.
Duane McMullen has been delivering mail on these Highland streets for 15 years. He knows the neighbors on a first name basis and he definitely knows when something is out of the ordinary.
"I pay attention to my surroundings,” McMullen said.
It's his keen eye that helped police nab two alleged burglars Wednesday. McMullen was dropping off a package on Overlook Terrace when he spotted two men, one on a bike making a bee- line for a house across the street.
"They went up to the house. And I stopped and looked at what was going on seeing what was going to happen. Then I heard them knock on the door so I thought maybe they'll walk away cause he's not home," McMullen said.
He continues to deliver the mail. Even stopping by the house where he had seen the two men. When he gets to the next house he hears a lot of commotion.
"When I got to the next house, I heard somebody talking. I looked back and it’s the two individuals that were at the front door now running from this house," McMullen said.
He notices one man is wearing an overcoat concealing a large item so he calls the cops.
Minutes later, 20-year-old Brandon Brown and 19-year-old Harry Meredith are caught just two streets over with jewelry, medication and money . McMullen says he's just happy no one was hurt.
"I wouldn't consider myself a hero I'm just here every day and I'm just doing my job. I'm glad I helped the police out," says McMullen.
