Louisville, Ky. (WHAS)--A 31-year-old Louisville man is dead after a single car crash in downtown Louisville early Friday morning.

Louisville Metro Police have yet to release the identity of the man but said the man died at the scene of the accident at 18th Street and Broadway.

LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley said witnesses told officers the small Caillac was speeding from the 1700 block of Dixie to the scene where it plowed through a TARC sign, a fence and into a building currently under renovation.

"There was another witness in a car saying he was going at a high rate of speed.  Our investigators haven't noticed any skid marks, it just plowed straight through," Smiley said.

Smiley also said the air bag did deploy but the man was not wearing a seat belt.

Testing will be done to determine if drugs and alcohol played a role in the crash.
