Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The H1N1 vaccine is finally available to the public in Jefferson County with the first clinic opening next week.

15,000 doses will be given to high-risk populations at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium through a free drive-thru and walk-up clinic.

This comes after Louisville Public Health & Wellness announced two women died in Jefferson County from the H1N1 virus this week. Both had underlying medical problems.

“We’re here to say and the CDC is backing us up. We’re listening to them saying it’s safe and there’s no reason anyone should be concerned about vaccines,” says Dr. Adewale Troutman of Public Health and Wellness Direct.

“We’re in a position to begin giving it to the public. We will give the 15,000 units that we have and by next week maybe another 2,000 or 3,000,” says Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson.

The free H1N1 walk-up and drive-thru clinic will be:

Wednesday, November 11
Thursday, November 12
8:00am – 8:00pm
Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium

These are the high risk groups who can receive the vaccinations:

Pregnant women
Children 6 months through 4 years old
People who live with or care for kids younger than 6 months old
Children 5 through 18 years old who have chronic medical conditions
Healthcare workers
Emergency first responders

TARC will offer free bus service to the clinics from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from five different government centers.

For more information, call the Louisville H1N1 Flu Hotline: 568-H1N1.
