FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Democrat Jack Conway is expected to officially file candidacy papers Wednesday to run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Jim Bunning.
Conway, entering his third year as state attorney general, has been campaigning for months and had generated more than $2 million for his race by the end of October.
He and Democratic Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo are vying for the seat that has been held by Bunning for the past two terms. The winner of the Democratic primary in May will likely face a well-funded Republican, two of whom have amassed well over $1 million.
Bunning opted to retire rather than seek re-election.
