(WHAS11) Some people reserve the last weekend before Christmas to go to the mall to take pictures with Santa and ask for those last minute gifts, while others spend the weekend out shopping for them.
Despite the bad weather, the Mall St. Matthews was full of people getting presents for friends and family.
Kristi Gilliland said, “I’ve shopped today for my husband and for my stepson.”
Sandy Hill said, “Kids and grandkids.”
Angelea Thompson said, “It’s the funnest (sic) time and it’s the best deals. You’re conscientious about what you’re spending, but you also want to give your family and friends the best.”
Gilliland added, “I definitely watch what I spend.” And Hill added, “I’m just going all out for Christmas. That’s just me. I’m just going all out. It’s Christmas, I come up... all out.”
But the real question is, with all of this holiday spending will retailers see the effects enough to allow the economy to begin to bounce back?
If you ask Kathy Brent, manager of Brookstone, the answer is yes. “I believe it’s making a comeback. We have been really successful here in this store. People are shopping like crazy so we have been busy.”
While others aren’t watching it at all; which is why Angela Thompson and Sandy Hill said they do their holiday shopping the weekend before Christmas every year.
But the economy is still weak.
So while people are spending, many are still being careful about their purchases.
